KAILUA-KONA — Fire officials are investigating the cause of a Friday afternoon fire that destroyed two unpermitted structures in the Hawaiian Ocean View Estates subdivision of Ka’u.
The Hawaii Fire Department said it responded at 2:51 p.m. to a report of residence at 92-2834 Sea View Drive on fire. Upon firefighters’ arrival, they found a 30-by-40-foot single-story structure used as a residence and a 16-by-16-foot single-story structure used for storage engulfed in flames.
It took firefighters about two hours to extinguish the blaze. Both structures were deemed a total loss.
The two occupants of the home were not present when the fire broke out, according to the department. They did not request American Red Cross assistance.
