From noon–3 p.m. this Saturday, University of Hawaii Sea Grant College Program is hosting a free, family-friendly event to showcase the completion of the Waiulaula Stream Restoration Project at Ulu Laau Nature Park, also called Waimea Nature Park.
At the event, community members can see the rain garden, different methods to stabilize the banks of the stream and control erosion, and native plant restoration.
Waiulaula Watershed encompasses more than 18,000 acres of land listed as a priority watershed for restoration by the state of Hawaii and the NOAA. The watershed is under significant threats from nonpoint sources of pollution such as nutrients and sediment.
