Charlie Carroll
Charlie Carroll, 64, of Honaunau, died July 12, 2017, in California. Born on July 16, 1952, in Miami, he moved to Hawaii in 1978. He was a coffee farmer, liked to hunt, and enjoyed fishing and surfing.
Celebration of life will be held 10 a.m. July 15 at Pu’uhonua O Honaunau.
He is survived by his wife Carol Carroll of Honaunau, two daughters Noelani Riskas (Brian Riskas) and Chelsea Carroll of San Luis Obispo, Calif.; one grandchild.
Louise Haanio
Louise Gun Hoa Haanio, 103, of Kailua-Kona, died May 19, 2018, at the Wahiawa General Hospital on Oahu. Born in Hilo, she worked at various Chinese restaurants in Hilo and was a member of St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church in Kailua-Kona and Keauhou Kumiai.
Friends may call 1-2:45 p.m. July 6 at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church; funeral Mass at 3 p.m.. Friends may call again 8:30–10 a.m. July 7 at Dodo Mortuary Chapel in Hilo; prayer service at 10 a.m. Burial to follow at Homelani Memorial Park. Casual attire.
She is survived by son, Victor (Toni Claire) Haanio of Kona; daughter, Judy (Eugene) Gold of Waialua; three sisters-in-law; one granddaughter; nine hanai grandchildren, four hanai great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews.

Ann Kaupu
Mrs. Ann Michele Kaupu, 69, of Ocean View, died May 30, 2018, at her residence. Born on July 10, 1948, in Detroit, she was a homemaker, seamstress and artist.
A celebration of life will be held at noon on July 14 at the family’s residence at 92-9017 Lehua Lane in Ocean View. The family requests casual attire.
She is survived by her husband, McKinley Kaupu and daughter, Madison Kaupu of Ocean View; hanai sons, Jeffrey Haalilio of Ocean View and Moku Haina of Hilo; hanai daughter, Layna Haina of Ocean View; brothers, Richard May of Hayden, Idaho, and Timothy (Jamie) May of Concord, Calif.; one hanai grandson; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Thomas Ballesteros, Jr.
Thomas Ballesteros, Jr., 42, of Kona died June 23, 2018, at Kona Community Hospital. Born Sept. 24, 1975, in Pahala, he was a farm laborer and a member of the Hawaii National Guard.
A celebration of life will be held at noon on July 7 at Waiohinu Park in Ka’u. The family requests casual attire.

Richard Kwai Mun Wong, Jr., 83, of Pahoa, died June 9, 2018, at his residence. Born in Palama, Oahu, he was a retired block setter/cement finisher for Masons & Plasters Local 630 and a member of the Pahoa Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses.
A visitation will take place 1-1:30 p.m. July 7 at the Hawaiian Shores Community Center, 15-859 Kahakai Boulevard in Pahoa. A memorial service will take place at 1:30 p.m. Family requests aloha attire and no flowers.

Yoichi Oba
Mr. Yoichi Stanley Oba, 84, died June 23, 2018, of Papaikou, in the Hale Anuenue Restorative Care Center in Hilo. Born in Paauhau, Hawaii on Sept. 21, 1933, he was retired from the former Hamakua Sugar Company as a machinist. He was a member of the Taishoji Soto Mission in Hilo and Senior Bowling League.
Visitation will be held 3-4 p.m. July 8 at Dodo Mortuary Chapel in Hilo, memorial service will begin at 4 p.m. Casual attire. He is survived by, brothers, Harold T. Samuel Toler, Sr.
Samuel Kay Toler, Sr., 68, of Keaau, died on June 14, 2018, at home. Born in Goldsboro, N.C., he was a cane truck driver for the former Hilo Coast Processing Co., a security guard for the Hilo Airport security and retired as a porter with the Hilo Porter Services at the Hilo International Airport, and was a veteran of the U.S. Army.
Friends may call from 11 a.m. into the evening July 7 at the Toler residence in Keaukaha, 195 Todd Ave. for a celebration of life gathering. Casual attire, no flowers.
