KAILUA-KONA — An Ocean View man is facing terroristic threatening and other charges after reported attempts to slash a victim with a knife last week.
The incident occurred about 3:20 p.m. Friday at Kahuku Park in Ka‘u when the suspect, later identified as 29-year-old Travis Leka, approached a 36-year-old man in the park and went after him with a knife, according to the Hawaii Police Department.
At that point, police say, the victim fled into a vehicle. Leka allegedly tried to slash the man while in the car.
The suspect reportedly slashed a tire on the victim’s vehicle, afterward the victim left the area, said police Maj. Robert Wagner. The men are acquaintances.
Police took Leka into custody about an hour after the incident. Wagner said officers found suspected methamphetamine and paraphernalia items on his person.
Leka was booked into jail and charged with first-degree terroristic threatening, second-degree attempted assault, unauthorized entry into a motor vehicle, third-degree criminal property damage, third-degree promotion of a dangerous drug and drug paraphernalia.
Leka is being held on $30,000 bail. A preliminary hearing has been scheduled for this afternoon.
