Zumba Gold in a chair will be from 10:30-11 a.m. this Thursday and July 19 with Renée Morinaka, a licensed Zumba instructor. This class is mainly for those who have mobility or balance issues, but still love to move and dance. It includes a warm up, dance party and cool down stretching to upbeat music of various genres. Participants sit during the entire class. Bring water, a towel and wear covered shoes.
Freedom from Pain Support Group will gather from noon-1:30 p.m. Thursday and July 19 with Cynthia Magg, an EFT practitioner. Say “adios” to aches and pains that deplete energy and disrupt life. Whether pain is old, new, acute—injury or disease-related, the quality of life can be improved. Weekly sessions are combined with mind-body-emotions concepts that will empower attendees to access their innate ability to self-heal. No prior EFT experience is necessary.
Chair Tai Chi–Chi Kung is a restorative program that will be held from 1:30-2:30 p.m. July 9 with Madeline Sofranac, DPT. Enjoy simple, effective hand and leg movements, postures, gentle deep breathing and pressure point techniques while remaining seated in a chair. Tai Chi–Chi Kung movements emphasize the flow of internal energy to improve organ function, range of motion, blood pressure balance and overall physical and mental well-being. This class works well for seniors, physically challenged persons and folks recovering from surgeries or living with injuries.
Parkinson’s and Neuroplasticity Wellness Support will meet from 1-2:30 p.m. July 11. People with Parkinson’s Disease and other neurological challenges, their care partners and others wanting to be part of a local Parkinson’s community support network are encouraged to attend these monthly talk story gatherings on the theme that health—physical, intellectual and spiritual is wealth. Discussions focus on personal experiences, community and PD related topics, including current research. Information exchanged is helpful to all who attend. Attendance by regular and new members is encouraged.
Self-Hypnosis Workshop will be held from 5:30-6:30 p.m. July 11, led by Jennifer Jones, a clinically certified hypnotherapist. In this workshop, attendees will learn techniques for changing the way they feel about certain areas of their lives and a fun method called “the opposite game” — a useful everyday tool for proactively adjusting their perspectives.
Body-to-Brain Strategies for Movement, Stretching and Exercise Programs will be offered from 6-7 p.m. July 12 with Catherine Mitchell, a Feldenkrais practitioner, educator and lecturer. Get a sneak preview of a presentation accepted at the Movement and Cognition Conference held at Harvard. Teach children how to feel the mind, body and brain connections. This information is especially helpful for children with listening or behavior issues.
