KAILUA-KONA — Two soldiers are back on duty after being injured during an MK19 automatic grenade launcher training at Pohakuloa Training Area on Wednesday, officials confirmed Friday.
The incident occurred at 2:30 p.m. with soldiers from the 25th Infantry Division, based out of Schofield Barracks on Oahu. According to an email from Curtis J. Kellogg, Division Public Affairs Officer for the 25th Infantry Division, the training was not being conducted as part of Rim of the Pacific (RIMPAC) exercises.
RIMPAC, which kicked off Wednesday, is an international maritime exercise that provides a unique training opportunity to designed to foster and sustain cooperative relationships to ensure the safety of sea lanes and security of world’s oceans.
As with any training-related accident, Kellogg states the incident is under investigation.
