Residents can support patients and their families as volunteers at North Hawaii Community Hospital. No special skills are required, and the only qualification required is a desire to help others.
Hospital volunteers help escort patients, read to them and assist with requests such as providing a pillow or blanket, or changing a TV channel. Information desk volunteers greet visitors, provide directions, deliver flowers and other basic requests.
Additional positions available are Aloha Cart Ambassador — providing patients with comfort items such as magazines and puzzles; office duties including filing, copying and answering phones; delivery of supplies to hospital departments; and assistance with inventory and restocking. Other needs are healing touch and reiki, aromatherapy rounds and garden maintenance.
