KAILUA-KONA — Hawaii Island police have apprehended 27-year-old Joshua Akeakamai Ancheta, who was wanted on an outstanding warrant of arrest stemming from a June 5 incident involving the unauthorized control of a propelled vehicle and a hit-and-run traffic collision in Kawaihae.
At 11:30 a.m. Thursday, Ancheta was located and apprehended in Puak by Area II Special Enforcement Unit officers, according to the Hawaii Police Department. At the time of his arrest, Ancheta was located in a stolen Honda sedan. Officers recovered the stolen Honda sedan and a second stolen vehicle that was located nearby.
On Friday, Ancheta was charged with first-degree assault of a police officer, third-degree criminal property damage, second-degree theft, third-degree promotion of a dangerous drug, third-degree promoting a detrimental drug, two counts fourth-degree theft, two counts of unauthorized control of a propelled vehicle, fraudulent use of a credit card, leaving an accident involving vehicle/property, leaving an accident involving bodily injury, failure to give information and render aid, reckless driving, driving without a valid license, violation of a protective order, possessing drug paraphernalia, resisting arrest, and failure to have a place to keep ammunition.
His bail is set at $45,025.
