KAILUA-KONA — A 47-year-old man is facing firearms and drug offenses after police arrested him Monday at a home off Kaiminani Drive.
At approximately 8 a.m. Monday, Area II Vice and Special Enforcement Unit officers arrested Francis Kekona without incident. Kekona, who has no permanent address, was being sought for a no-bail contempt of court warrant, two $50,000 contempt of court warrants and a $100 failure to appear warrant.
After the initial arrest, officers executed search warrants on two bags and a container recovered from Kekona.
Police reportedly recovered a 9mm pistol with 10 rounds of ammunition in a 15-round magazine, 31 additional 9mm rounds, 13.2 grams of suspected methamphetamine, empty zip-lock baggies and a digital scale.
According to charges filed in District Court, Kekona is facing three counts second-degree promoting a dangerous drugs, two counts possessing a gun when prohibited by law because of felon status, owning a prohibited automatic firearm, and possession of a firearm in the commission of a felony drug offense.
On Tuesday, District Court Judge Margaret Masunaga maintained bail for Kekona at $135,000 and ordered Kekona to appear for a preliminary hearing on Thursday.
