KAILUA-KONA — Hawaii Island police arrested 25 motorists for suspected drunken driving between May 21 and Sunday. Three of those drivers were involved in a traffic crash and one was younger than age 21.
Kona officers arrested 13 motorists while South Hilo officers arrested eight. Officers in South Kohala and Puna arrested two drivers in each district, according to the Hawaii Police Department.
So far this year, there have been 474 DUI arrests compared with 488 during the same period last year, according to police.
Through Tuesday, there have been 11 deaths on Hawaii Island public roads compared with 17 fatalities at this time last year.
