After nine days of drydock, Hokuleʻa is poised to return to the ocean today, in time to sail to Maunalua Bay, Oahu, the next scheduled stop on the Mahalo, Hawaii Sail.
Damage sustained to the hulls while sailing along Hawaii Island last week have been repaired and the legendary voyaging canoe is slated to be ready to depart from Sand Island, Oahu, today for an almost two-week community engagement at Hawaii Kai Towne Center.
Hokuleʻa also will return to Hawaii Island later this year to reschedule school and community tours that were postponed because of the damage to the canoe’s hulls.
