State Highways crews are continuing efforts to clear Highway 270 after landslides and a downed tree closed the roadway in three different places east of Kapaau on Tuesday.
As of Tuesday evening, the highway was open to both lanes of traffic near mile markers 24 and 25 after crews removed a landslide that had blocked the roadway since early Tuesday, North Kohala Police Capt. Albert Jason Cortez said. One lane of the highway was open between mile markers 25 and 26 as crews worked to get the downed tree off the roadway.
A landslide blocking Highway 270 near mile markers 26 and 27, east of Halaula, had yet to be cleared. Cortez said there is no estimate available as when the road will reopen.
The closure is located before the popular Pololu Valley and Lookout at the terminus of Highway 270, near mile marker 28.
