Yoga Basics with Janet Lam meets every Monday, except May 28, from 8-9 a.m. Start the week feeling balanced, flexible and strong. This class includes fundamental yoga poses, and although not specifically a beginner’s class the movement sequence can easily accommodate students new to yoga or returning to a yoga practice.
Tutu’s Quilters meets every Monday, except May 28, from 9:30 a.m.-noon with Kathy Lukens. This get-together is for experienced as well as curious beginners to learn and practice quilting Hawaiian style. Initial supplies are provided or participants can bring something they are working on.
Family Science Night at Earl’s Garage will be held at 5:30 pm this Friday, hosted by Katherine DuBose-Oliver. Family members of all ages are guided in an opportunity to work together and spend time exploring hands-on activities. Everything is provided, including food and supplies. Basic Estate Planning 101 will share important educational information from 10-11:30 a.m. this Saturday, hosted by John G. Roth, a local estate planning attorney. As the old expression goes, “You can’t take it with you.” Estate planning is the process of putting together a plan which will allow someone to step into your shoes to manage your assets and carry out your wishes in the event of your incapacity or death. Roth will present estate-planning options on current Hawaii laws that may apply to you and your family.
Tutu’s House Toning Group will meet from 2-4 p.m. Saturday. Join Shira Hunt, an RN and CST, and George Mycroft to reconnect with an ancient process to experience the adventurous and healing power of sound through the vibrations and frequencies of voices. In ancient times, people used the power of sound to communicate, empower their community, support healthy bodies and for simple enjoyment and connection. The intention for this monthly group is to recreate that, and to share and explore the energy created when raising voices together.
Chair Tai Chi–Chi Kung is a restorative program offered 1:30-2:30 p.m. May 14 with Madeline Sofranac, a DPT. Enjoy simple, effective hand and leg movements, postures, gentle deep breathing and pressure point techniques while remaining seated in a chair. Tai Chi–Chi Kung movements emphasize the flow of internal energy to improve organ function, range of motion, blood pressure balance and overall physical and mental well-being. This class works well for seniors, physically challenged persons and folks recovering from surgeries or living with injuries.
Plant Based Hui &Potluck will be held from 5-6 p.m. May 16 with Vivienne Aronowitz, MPH, a registered dietitian and certified diabetes educator. Join the group to create a like-minded healthy eating, plant-based hui and monthly potluck group to exchanges recipes, tips and food. Bring a copy of the recipe and ensure it does not include any ingredients from animals including meat, fish, poultry, eggs or dairy. Potluck dishes must be service-ready; no kitchen utilities available. Bring reusable plates, bowls and utensils.
Scrabble Meetup gathers from 1:30-4 p.m. every Friday with Annabel Spielman. Word lovers of every age and skill level are encouraged to play this classic game with relaxed rules; dictionary use permitted. It’s a great way to retain and expand vocabulary, spelling, memory and observation skills in a congenial atmosphere.
