WAIMEA — Waimea Middle School (WMS) families and community members can meet three finalists for the conversion charter school’s principal position during a series of back-to-back forums from 1:30 to 5 p.m. Wednesday in the new Keaoakea STEAM Learning Center, classroom Z201.
The interviews are part of a nationwide leadership search initiated by WMS’ local school board, Ho’okako’o Corporation, after current WMS Principal Amy Kendziorski announced she will not be continuing beyond the end of the current school year.
“We thank Amy for five years of dedication to our children and school-community and wish her the very best,” WMS Local Advisory Panel (LAP) Chair Jane Sherwood said, who is serving on an 8-member Interview Committee formed in collaboration with Ho’okako’o Corporation.
The Interview Committee includes three certificated teachers, a classified staff member, a LAP representative, one Ho’okako’o board member and two Ho’okako’o staff. The committee has recommended three candidates out of 27 applicants to meet both faculty-staff and LAP members, along with families and the community.
“We welcome all to come meet the candidates, learn about their academic expertise and passion, and why they want to join our public conversion charter school ohana,” Sherwood said.
No RSVP is required. Attendees can park on campus on the south Mala’ai Garden side of the entry drive or parallel park along the north side of the entry drive, both near the STEAM Learning Center.
