KAILUA-KONA — No tsunami was triggered by a magnitude-6.9 earthquake that struck at 12:33 p.m. Friday.
The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center said the temblor occurred on south flank of Kilauea Volcano. It initially reported the earthquake as a magnitude-6.0, but later upgraded it to magnitude-6.4.
“No tsunami is expected. Repeat. No tsunami is expected. However, many areas may have experienced strong shaking,” the center wrote in an information statement.
