Hawaii Island police arrested 21 motorists for suspected drunken driving between April 16 and Sunday. Six of those drivers were involved in a traffic crash and one was younger than age 21.
South Hilo officers arrested eight motorists while officers in Kona and Puna arrested six drivers in each district, according to the Hawaii Police Department. South Kohala officers arrested one motorist.
So far this year, there have been 350 DUI arrests compared with 383 during the same period last year, according to police.
Through Tuesday, there have been eight deaths on Big Island public roads compared with seven fatalities at this time last year.
