Martin Allen
Martin “Marty” Allen, 87, of Waimea, died March 11, 2018, at his Holualoa family’s residence. Born Aug. 28, 1930, in Chicago, he was a retired personal assistant for the State of Hawaii Special Needs program, real estate developer, an educator, a triathlete, golfer and U.S. Army Korean War veteran.
A service will be held at noon May 2 at West Hawaii Veterans Cemetery. Celebration of life potluck immediately to follow at the Allen’s home in Holualoa. For information call 938-3913 or 937-3753.
He is survived by wife, Mari-jo Allen of Waimea; son, James Allen; daughter, Marla Jo Allen; grandsons, Shaun Anderson, Christopher Anderson all of Holualoa; stepsons, Buck (Jenna) Robinson of Richmond, Virginia, Louis (Audra) Robinson of Honolulu; five stepgrandchildren.

Bernard Gomes, Sr.
Bernard Gomes, Sr., 90, of Hilo, died April 9, 2018, at Life Care Center of Hilo. Born May 31, 1927, in Hilo, he was a retired production (chief) manager for the Hawaii Tribune-Herald in Hilo, a veteran in the U.S. Army and a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Hilo
A wake service was held. A graveside service will be held at 9 a.m. April 17 at East Hawaii Veterans Cemetery No. 2.
He is survived by wife, Irene M. Gomes of Hilo; sons, Bernard Gomes, Jr. of Seattle, and Joseph (Elna) Gomes of Hilo; seven grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson; numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

Clement Nelson
Clement “Clem” Edward Nelson, 89, of Hilo, died March 5, 2018, at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Hilo, he was retired from the State Department of Health and a musician. He was also a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Hilo.
Private services were held. No koden and no flowers.
He is survived by wife, Amy Nelson of Hilo; son, Aron (Sue) Nelson of Honolulu; daughter, Jennifer (Daniel) Loeffler of Kurtistown; four grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.

Jolene Rae K. Kapua-Allison
Jolene Rae K. Kapua-Allison, 54, of Mountain View, died Sunday, April 8, 2018 at Hilo Medical Center. Born on Jan. 11, 1964, in Honolulu, she was employed with Roberts Hawaii and J. Hara Store. She was a former employee for Longs Drugs and Big Island Candies. She was also a member of Hui Makai Motorcycle Club and Blue Knights Motorcycle Club.
A celebration of life was held at Wailoa State Park.
She is survived by son, Brock Leslie; daughter, Hei Tiare Kapua-Leslie; mother, Patricia (Norman Mokuau) Nakanelua-Mokuau; father, Joseph K. Kapua; brother, Reyd P. (Sarah) Kapua; numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Charles Kahawai, Sr
Reverend/Kahu, Charles L. Kahawai, Sr., 91, of Hilo, died March 13, 2018, in Keaau. Born on Oct. 3, 1926, in Hilo, he was a reverend and kahu of Ke Kilohana Oka Malamalama Church in Hilo, a World War II veteran in the U.S. Army and a member of the Waiakea Lions Club.
Friends may call from 5-7 p.m. April 19 at Dodo Mortuary Chapel for a 7 p.m. funeral service. Casual attire and flowers are welcomed A graveside service and burial will take place 9 a.m. April 20 at East Hawaii Veterans Cemetery No. 2.
He is survived by sons, Charles (Marilyn) Kahawai, Jr., Carl (Ahulani) Kahawai and Chanley Kahawai of Hilo, Chandler (Debbie) Kahawai of Santa Fe, N.M.; daughter, Charlene (Yoshihiro) Inouye of Hilo; sister, Geraldine AhSing of Arizona; 15 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchidren and five great-great grandchildren.

Felix Embernate
Felix “Fat” Deponte Embernate, 86, of Honokaa, formerly from Paauhau, died on March 28, 2018, at his daughter’s residence. Born on Oct. 13, 1931, he went to Honokaa High School and served in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Hokkaido, Japan, during the Korean conflict. He was employed for 45 years at Paauhau Sugar Plantation and Hamakua Sugar as well as worked Safeguard Security for 22 years at the Waimea KTA.
Friends may call from 5:30-6:30 p.m. April 20 at Dodo Mortuary Chapel in Hilo for a 6:30 p.m. wake service. Cremation to follow at Dodo Mortuary Crematory. Friends may call again from 8-9:30 a.m. April 28 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Honokaa for a 10 a.m. memorial Mass. Casual attire. An urn burial will be held at a later date.
He was preceded in death by parents, Estifanio and Christina Deponte Embernate; brothers, Abraham Embernate, Benjamin Embernate and sister, Mary Jane Ballesteros.
He is survived by wife, Loretta S. Embernate of Honokaa; daughter, Lorrie A. Akina (Theodore) Ferguson of Honokaa; son, Scott J. (Hattie) Embernate of Hilo; brothers, Robert (Julie) Embernate, Sr., of Honokaa, Rodolph “Rudy” Embernate and Franklin (Leilani) Embernate of Kailua-Kona; sister, Linda Lou (Kazu) Takamine of Honokaa; one sister-in-law; one brother in-law, two granddaughters; one great-granddaughter; numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

Georgiana Downey
Georgiana Beckley Ahia Pang Downey, 97, of Kamuela, died on Dec. 1, 2017, at the Hilo Medical Center. Born in Honolulu, and formerly a longtime resident of Alewa Heights, Oahu, she retired from the Hawaii Air National Guard at Hickam Air Force Base and was a member of St. Theresa’s Catholic Church.
Friends may call 9:15-10:15 a.m. April 20 at the Borthwick Mortuary, Maunakea Chapel on Oahu for a 10:15 a.m. celebration of life service. Casual attire, no flowers. A luncheon will follow.
She is survived by her sister, Julia Ahia Cooley of Sun City Center, Fla.; daughters, Darlene Pang Montgomery of Kamuela and Beckley Georgiana Pang; 13 great-grandchildren; and 11 great-great grandchildren; numerous nephews and nieces.
