Natsuko Uehara
Natsuko Uehara, 90, of Mountain View, died March 20, 2018 at a Care Home in Hilo. Born in Olaa, she was retired from the former Puna Sugar Co. and a member of Puna Hongwanji Mission.
Private services were held. Family requests no monetary gifts or flowers.
She is survived by daughter, Julie (Alvin) Urabe of Hilo; son, Arnold Uehara of Mountain View; sisters, Betty Kikuyo Matsumoto of Honolulu, Jane (Edward) Imamura of Aiea, Oahu; three grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews.

Mark Carpenter
Mark Charles Carpenter, 72, of South Kohala, died April 3, 2018, at his residence. Born Feb. 13, 1946, in Oakland, Calif., he was a real estate professional, physicist and a fine wood worker.
Private service to be held.
He is survived by wife, Stephanie Carpenter of South Kohala; brother, John Carpenter of Hayes, Virginia; sister, Rosemary Baker of Newport News, Virginia; hanai brother, Richard Cohn of Mill Valley, California.

Wayne Anderson
Wayne Andersen, 70, of North Las Vegas, died March 4, 2018, at his brother’s home in Hilo. Born in New Jersey, raised in Newark, Calif., he was a long-haul truck driver, avid bodybuilder, and a U.S. Marine Corps veteran.
Private services were held. Donations can be made to Hawaii Care Choices (formerly Hospice of Hilo).
He is survived by companion, Erin Shull of North Las Vegas; brother, Gary (Barbara) Andersen of Hilo; one niece; one nephew; two grand-nieces and a grand-nephew of Hilo.

Robert Queen
Robert “Sunshine” Queen, 69, of Hilo, died April 8, 2018, in Hilo. Born in 1948 in Massachusetts, he was a former employee of Ken’s House Of Pancakes in Hilo.

He is survived by his wife, Harriet Queen; two daughters, Shayne (Chad) Sue of Hilo, and Kainoa Lato of Hilo; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Shizue Shiroma
Shizue S. Shiroma, 85, of Hilo, died March 27, 2018, at Life Care Center of Hilo. Born in Pepeekeo, she had worked for the University of Hawaii at Hilo College of Tropical Agriculture and was a member of Puna Hongwanji Mission and Hui Okinawa.

She is survived by husband, Takeshi Shiroma of Hilo; son, Max (Joni) Shiroma of Mt. View; daughter, Carolyn (Frank Farrell) Shiroma of Denver; two grandsons, Randy and Mitchell Shiroma; numerous nieces and nephews.

Bernard Gomes, Sr.
Bernard Gomes, Sr., 90, of Hilo, died April 9, 2018, at Life Care Center of Hilo. Born on May 31, 1927, in Hilo, he was a retired production (chief) manager for the Hawaii Tribune-Herald in Hilo and he also was a veteran of the U.S. Army and a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Hilo.
Friends may call from 5-6 p.m. April 16 at Dodo Mortuary Chapel for a 6 p.m. wake service. Casual attire and flowers and lei are welcomed. A graveside service will be held at 9 a.m. April 17 at East Hawaii Veterans Cemetery No. 2.
He is survived by wife, Irene M. Gomes of Hilo; sons, Bernard Gomes, Jr. of Seattle, and Joseph (Elna) Gomes of Hilo; seven grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson; numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

Mazie Oshita
Mazie Toshiko Oshita, 90, of Pahoa, died March 11, 2018, at the Hilo Medical Center. She was born in Honolulu and was a retired salesperson with the former Ah Mai Store.
Private family services held. No monetary donations (koden).
She is survived by her husband, Eichi Oshita of Pahoa; sons, Crescent (Susan) Oshita of Pearl City, Scott Oshita of Calif., Blaine Oshita of Hawaii Kai and Blake (Wendy) Oshita of Kapahulu; sister, Collette (Stanley) Mitsuyuki of Aiea; three granddaughters; nieces and nephews.

Charles Nahooikaika
Charles Edwin Nahooikaika, 89, of Pahoa, died April 4, 2018, at home. Born on July 1, 1928, in Hilo, he was a retired heavy equipment operator for the Operating Engineers Local 3.

He is survived by wife, Roberta “Dodo” Holt Nahooikaika of Pahoa; children, Charlene (Craig) Savio of Seattle, Charles (Olita) Nahooikaika of Sumter, S.C., Gaynel Nahooikaika of Honolulu, Gilbert (Michele) Nahooikaika of Las Vegas, and Candi (Michael) Borge of Waianae, Oahu; sisters, Pauline (Willibrord) Tallett of Oahu, Aileen Chow of Hilo and Shirley Stillman of Hilo; 17 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren.

Kiyoshi Takata
Kiyoshi Takata, 93, of Laupahoehoe and formerly of Pupukea, Oahu died March 17, 2018, in Hilo. Born in Honolulu, he was a retired electronic technician, former self-defense instructor at Brigham Young University-Hawaii and a black belt Aikido instructor.
Friends may call 5-5:30 p.m. April 19 at Mililani Mortuary makai Chapel for a 5:30 p.m. memorial service. Burial to take place at 11:30 a.m. April 20 at Mililani Memorial Park. Casual attire.
He is survived by daughter, Patti (Jim) Takata-Lazo of Laupahoehoe; numerous nieces and nephews.
