The Department of Commerce and Consumer Affairs (DCCA) will host Business Action Center Day 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. April 12 at the County of Hawaii, West Hawaii Civic Center, Department of Research and Development office on the second floor of Building C just above the DMV.
Research and Development staff are available for primary business consultations and the DCCA will be available to assist with Hawaii State business registrations, general excise tax applications, Federal Employer Identification Numbers (FEIN) and other business filings. You may also find information on other government requirements pertaining to your industry/business and other resources available to small businesses.

HONOLULU – Hawaii hotels statewide reported strong results in February 2018 compared to a year ago, highlighted by average revenue per available room (RevPAR) of $252 — up 10.5 percent — according to the Hawaii Hotel Performance Report released by the Hawaii Tourism Authority (HTA).
Statewide average daily rate grew to $294, up 8 percent, in February, with occupancy also increasing to 85.6 percent, up 1.9 percentage points.
HTA’s Tourism Research Division issued the report’s findings utilizing data compiled by STR, Inc., which conducts the largest and most comprehensive survey of hotel properties in the Hawaiian Islands.
“February was an excellent month for Hawaii’s hotel industry across the board. All classes of hotel properties on all counties performed well and that’s great news for the industry as a whole. Wailea and the Kohala Coast stood out with exceptional growth in RevPAR and ADR, complemented by high rates of occupancy,” Jennifer Chun, HTA director of tourism research, said in a press release.
Local leaders needed as Omidyar Fellows
HONOLULU – Change makers and leaders statewide are invited to apply for the sixth cohort of the Omidyar Fellows. Founded in 2012, the program seeks to cultivate the conditions in which Hawaii thrives by equipping mid-career leaders with the skills and cross-sector relationships necessary to collectively affect societal change.
Applications are now being accepted at www.omidyarfellows.org, and are due by noon April 26. Candidates will be selected based on their motivation and ability to make transformative change happen in Hawaii. The best candidates are mid-career leaders who have been entrepreneurial in their career and who have had the experience and drive to be disrupters and transformative catalysts within organizational leadership and/or outside of formal roles.
The application and selection process for the Omidyar Fellows includes an online written application, letters of support, small group process, and in-person interview. Selected Fellows will participate in an executive-level 15-month curriculum and join a vibrant network – the Forum of Fellows – at no cost to the Fellow or their employer/sponsoring organization. The program provides travel stipends for neighbor island Fellows.
