WAIMEA — From 10 a.m.–3 p.m. March 31, instructors Wendy Baker and Amanda Rieux will guide teachers in making a summer plan for their school gardens at a workshop to be held at Mala’ai: The Culinary Garden of Waimea Middle School.

Instruction will include design scenarios for summer school garden care, communications, and record-keeping; identifying needs for the school garden based on its summer scenario; and selecting strategies for summer garden care that focus on soil health including plant choice, cover cropping, mulching and simple water timers.

Participants are asked to bring a brown-bag lunch, water bottle, note-taking instrument, protection from the sun, wind and rain, and closed toe shoes.

Registration is $30 per participant. The event is sponsored by The Kohala Center and Mala’ai.
