HONOKAA — As part of this Saturday’s second annual E Ola Mau I Ka Pono Festival, a traveling exhibit titled “Kukulu: The Pillars of Mauna a Wakea” will feature art, merchandise, music and messages of the Mauna Kea Movement at the Hawaiian Cultural Center of Hamakua in Honokaa.
The event celebrates the Center’s second anniversary and will begin with an opening ceremony at 10 a.m. Festivities will continue until 4:30 p.m. The Center is located in the Botelho Building on Mamane Street.
The free event will also include entertainment by Kalani Souza and Friends, Earl Deleon and Hwane Rios, food and a silent auction. All art forms that contribute to the tribute to a sacred mountain are welcome.
Kukulu is a platform to teach, share and inspire the community to stand as pillars for the sacred mountain through visual arts, workshops, presentations, events and gatherings. Guided by ancient Hawaiian wisdom, the Hawaiian Cultural Center of Hamakua and E Ola Mau I Ka Pono programs are devoted to enriching the lands and people of Hamakua, engaging the whole community in the participation and the care of their home, land and heritage.
