Nothing was promised to Hunter Olaso when he signed on with Webster University last spring.
But just as he did while coming up with Kealakehe, Olaso put his head down, put in work and proved that one of the best abilities you can have is availability.
The former All-BIIF pick with the Waveriders recently completed a standout freshman season at Webster University, becoming a midfield mainstay for the Gorlocks.
“Hunter had a tremendous first season for us and was an integral member of our team’s success this year,” Webster fifth-year head coach Mike Siener said. “He emerged as one of our young leaders, and we’re so excited to see his continued growth in the coming years. Hunter is going to be a special player for our program.”
Olaso helped Webster — an NCAA Division III squad — to a 12-4-4 overall record and was one of only two players to start all 20 of Webster’s games.
Olaso played the second-most minutes on the squad, recording 1,826 minutes out of 1,956 minutes of playing time. He scored one goal and added three assists for five points from the center-midfield position.
Olaso was a key shield in front of a dominant defense that allowed only 21 goals in 20 matches, including just four goals in the Gorloks’ final 10 games. Webster went undefeated (7-0-2) in St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action before falling in the SLIAC Tournament semifinals in penalty kicks. The Gorloks did not lose a regular-season contest at home.
Olaso was named to the All-Conference third team for his efforts.
