Ronald Winters

Ronald Karl Winters, 75, of Pahoa, died Feb. 6, 2018, at Yukio Okutsu State Veterans Home. Born on Jan. 15, 1943, in Hagerstown, Md., he worked for a private landscaping company as a foreman and also was a veteran in the U.S. Marine Corps.

Private services will be held.

He is survived by wife, Kathleen M. Winters, of Pahoa; sons, Louie Perry of Nanawale, Ronney (Renee) Winters of Orchidland, and Robert T. Winters of Pahoa; daughter, Janice Vicente, of Kauai; sisters, Delores Seal, Margie Clark and Barbara Snowburger, all from Hagerstown, Maryland; and five grandchildren.

Richard Suder

Richard “Ricky” William Waiolama Suder, 67, of Hilo, died Jan. 23, 2018, at Hawaii Care Choices’ Pohai Malama Care Center. Born in Papaaloa, he was a United States Tennis Association certified head coach for Laupahoehoe High School, customer service/service director for United Airlines, sales manager for Big Island Honda Hilo &Kona, Kona Nissan and Aiona Car Sales and member of Onomea Rangers Kupuna Softball Team.

Services held.

He is survived by wife, Claire Bordner, of Hilo; daughter, Rikki Haunani Suder, of Kona; stepdaughter, Dana (John Pukini) Filoteo, of Hilo; stepson, Kalai (Cheyanne Young) Filoteo, of Hilo; hanai sons, Michael Apao, of Hilo, James Apao, of Honolulu; sisters, Kalanilehua Suder-Lum, of West Virginia, Maxine Leinaala Suder-Wilcox, of Waimea; seven grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Kenneth Benevides

Kenneth Douglas “Dougie” Benevides, 85, of Pepeekeo, died Jan. 18, 2018, at a care home in Hilo. Born in Hilo, he was a retired lieutenant from the Hawaii County Police Department, former member and Sergeant First Class of the Hawaii Army National Guard, and member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Papaikou and Aloha Council Boy Scouts of America.

Private services were held. Family requests no monetary gifts or flowers.

He is survived by wife, Helen Shirota-Benevides of Pepeekeo; brother, Raymond (Betty) Benevides of Hilo; sisters, Lucille Abrams of California, Isabelle Johansen of Hilo; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Richard Kauwe

Richard S. Kauwe, Jr., 67, of Hilo, died Feb. 4, 2018, at Yukio Okutsu State Veterans Home in Hilo. Born on Nov. 14, 1950, in Hilo, he was a commercial fisherman and a Veteran in the U.S. Army. He also was a member of the Malia Puka O Kalani Catholic Church in Keaukaha.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.

He is survived by brothers, Charles K. (Ligaya) Laniawe and Stanley (Kelly) Kauwe of Hilo, Henry N. Kauwe of Hawaiian Paradise Park and Leroy (Juana) Laniawe of El Cajon, Calif.; sisters, Grace (Gary) Kauwe of Las Vegas, Helen (Tom) Kauwe of Lakeside, Calif., Julia Kauwe of Vista, Calif., and Lyla Vogeler of Ainaloa; two aunts; one uncle; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Hatsuichi Oshiro

Hatsuichi John Oshiro, 86, of Hilo, died Feb. 7, 2018, at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Kohala, he was a retired generator technician and member of Hakalau Jodo Mission.

He is survived by daughter, Patricia (Russell) Rapoza of Hilo; sons, Theodore Oshiro of Hilo, Stanward (Leah) Oshiro of Keaau; sisters, Kay Akamine of Hilo, Hatsumi Shimabukuro of Honolulu, Haruko (Tamo) Isa of Santa Barbara, Calif., June (Clarence) Garcia of Springfield, Ore.; brother, Francis Oshiro of Gardena, Calif.; six grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews.

Donald Beatty

Donald Burel Beatty, of Kailua-Kona and Great Falls, Mont., died Jan. 10, 2018, at the Kona Hospital. Born April 17, 1932, in Elgin, Ill., he served in the U.S. Army and was a member of the Christian Science Society in Kona.

Private services were held.

He is survived by his former wife of 56 years, Margaret; sons Mark (Petrine) Beatty and Rick (Lori) Beatty; two grandchildren; and his wife, Janet Beatty.

Brenda Angelo

Brenda Angelo, 69, of Honokaa, died Jan. 26, 2018, at home. Born on April 16, 1948, in Haina, Honokaa, she was a retired administrative assistant for Mauna Kea Beach Hotel and Hapuna Prince Hotel. She was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Honokaa and a member of the Honokaa Hongwanji Obon Dancers.

Visitation will be 9-11 a.m. Feb. 24 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, Honokaa for an 11 a.m. memorial Mass. Casual attire and no flowers.

She is survived by brothers, Rudolph “Rudy” Angelo of Kukuihaele and Norman (Barbara) Angelo of Ewa Beach, Oahu; sisters, Emma Paiva of Ahualoa and Bernice (Manuel) Andrade of Santa Monica, Calif.; one sister-in-law; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Doreen Souza

Doreen Aukai Souza, 70, of Papaikou, died Feb. 2, 2018, at Hospice of Hilo’s Pohai Malama Facility. Born Nov. 23, 1947, in Honolulu, she was a retired personal assistant for Easter Seals – Hilo and a retired supervisor for Amfac papaya packing plant. She was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Papaikou and the Kamehameha Canoe Club.

Private services were held.

She is urvived by husband, Robert T. Souza of Papaikou; children, Roberta (Kalani Wela) Souza of Keaukaha, Robert J. Souza of Papaikou, Casey (Kelli-Rae) Souza of Papaikou, Haley (Rey Agbayani) Souza of Pepeekeo and Julie Andrade of Kaumana; siblings, Timothy Kealohapauole of Oahu, Vida-Ann Kealohapauole of Oahu, Althea (Wallace) Johnston of Oahu, Eldred Ikaika of Hilo, Erlene Hamamoto of Puna, Dennis Ikaika of Oahu, Frances Kamali of Lanai, Carol Kaleiwahea of Oahu, Priscilla Calvo of Oahu and Oliver Kamali Jr. of Oahu; 10 grandchildren; 1 great-grandson; numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

Debbie Waters

Debbie Waters, 55, of Glenwood died Dec. 31, 2017, at home. She was born in Hilo.

Jerryl Gene Kahana Mauhili, 62, of Hilo, died Jan. 29, 2018 in Hilo. Born in 1955 in Hilo, he was a cane truck driver, banana farm manager, owner of Menehune Landscape Maintenance Co., owner of Panaewa Farmer’s Market, and a past president of Keaukaha Panaewa Farmer’s Association.

Jane Wong

Jane Asayo Wong, 84, of Hilo and formerly of Kaimuki, died Feb. 12, 2018, at the Life Care Center of Hilo. Born in Waimanalo, she was a retired clerk for the former Investment Properties on Oahu.

She is survived by sons, Stephen (Joanne) Wong of Hilo, Michael Wong of Honolulu; sister, Doris Ikemoto of Honolulu; four grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandson.
