Rozemaryn Van Der Horst, 92, of Kailua-Kona, died Feb. 3, 2018. Born Feb. 19, 1925, in the Netherlands, she worked as a chemical engineer at her father’s electroplating company.

Mrs. Cynthia June Vinson, 65, of Ocean View, died Jan. 11, 2018, at Kona Community Hospital. Born Oct. 8, 1952, in Pasco, Wash., she was a jewelry salesperson.

Peter Groth Madsen, 87, of Kailua-Kona, died Jan. 31, 2018, at Hospice of Kona’s Nakamaru Hale. Born Jan. 31, 1931, in Copenhagen, Denmark, he was a retired community college teacher.

He is survived by his sons, Lars (Laurie Westrich) Madsen of Kealakekua, and Anders (Claudia) Vonderhyde of Milford, Conn.; daughter, Michelle (Harland) Wake of Orangeville, Ontario, Canada; brother, Flemming (Hjordis) Madsen of San Francisco; 10 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.

Mary Whitaker
Mrs. Mary Ruth Whitaker, 85, of Kailua-Kona, died Jan. 17 at Hospice of Kona’s Nakamaru Hale. Born Feb. 8, 1932, in Houston, she was a sales clerk at Walmart Store in Kailua-Kona. She was a member of the Red Hat Society’s Purple Majesties, and Phi Beta Kappa.
A celebration of life was held in Phoenix. Donations may be made in her memory to the Hawaii Island Humane Society, 78-6767 Mamalahoa Highway, Holualoa, HI. 96725.
She is survived by her daughters, Donna (Tony) Potenzo) Whitaker of Kailua-Kona, and Ruth (Scott Patterson) Whitaker of Phoenix; hanai daughter, Hula Whitaker of Kailua-Kona; son, Don (Mary Hutchins) Whitaker of Tonopah, Ariz.; brothers, Doug Keigwin of Palm Springs, Calif., Grady (Lexie) Keigwin of Missouri; sisters, Sharon (Don) Haddox of Lancaster, Calif., Sandy Allen of Stuart, Fla., and Margaret Knigge of Tomball, Texas; four grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
