Parkinson’s and Neuroplasticity Wellness Support will gather from 1—2:30 p.m. Wednesday. People with Parkinson’s disease and other neurological challenges, their care partners and others wanting to be part of a local Parkinson’s community support network are encouraged to attend these monthly talk story meetings on the theme that health — physical, intellectual and spiritual — is wealth. The discussion focuses on personal experiences, community and PD related topics, including current research. Information exchanged is helpful to all who attend. Attendance by regular and new members is encouraged.
Breast Feeding Support Group will meet from 9:30-11 a.m. Thursday, facilitated by Aimée Watkins. Breastfeeding and expectant mothers are encouraged to attend this monthly meet-up for mother-to-mother support. Meetings are in topical discussion format and keiki-friendly. The group intention is to support education and experience to promote a better understanding of breastfeeding as an important element in the healthy development of babies, moms and families.
Freedom from Pain Support Group is scheduled from noon-1:30 p.m. this Thursday and Jan. 25 with Cynthia Magg, an EFT practitioner. Say “adios” to aches and pains that deplete energy and disrupt life by joining this weekly EFT tapping support group. Whether pain is old, new, acute—injury or disease-related, quality of life can be improved. Weekly sessions are combined with mind-body-emotions concepts that empower participants to access their body’s innate ability to self-heal. No prior EFT experience is necessary. Newcomers are welcome.
Cancer Support Group for Women will meet from 12:30-2 p.m. Jan. 17. Whether a survivor, currently in treatment, recently diagnosed, or coping with the effects of cancer on a loved one, all are invited to join this group to discover the power of healing through connection with others who share a common bond. As the first get-together for the new year, an informal potluck is planned. Feel free to bring something to share, with no obligation to do so.
New Moon Gentle Yoga will be held from 4-5 p.m. Jan. 17 with Danielle Kwami, YT-200. Utilizing the refreshing energy of the first new moon of the year, join the group in planting seeds for well-being through this gentle practice, including meditation and intention setting. Drop into this revitalizing yoga class where participants will gently stretch and move their bodies in new ways. Bring a mat, personal blanket, socks and journal. Aloha Kidney • Kidney Disease Education will meet from 1—3:30 p.m. Jan. 18 and 25, Feb. 1, 8, 15 and 22 with Ramona Wong, MD, a retired nephrologist, kidney specialist. This educational series of six weekly classes is led from Oahu using video teleconferencing technology for those interested in, at risk for, or living with Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD). Hawaii has a high rate of CKD, mostly preventable. Often, poor choices unknowingly nudge towards chronic disease, but daily choices can be changed to live mindfully ever after.
