KAILUA-KONA — A flash flood watch for Hawaii Island will be in effect through late Wednesday night, according to the National Weather Service.
Drivers are advised to use caution and avoid driving where water covers the road.
The National Weather Service reported that “abundant moisture” ahead of a front along with an area of low pressure is expected to bring periods of heavy rains and isolated thunderstorms.
That rainfall could lead to flash flooding, the National Weather Service said.
The National Weather Service has also issued a winter storm warning, effective through 6 a.m. Thursday for island summits above 12,000 feet.
One to two feet of snow accumulation is expected, making travel difficult if not impossible. There will also be strong, gusty winds accompanying the snow, reducing visibility.
As of 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, the temperature at the summit is just below freezing with winds blowing at 14 mph. The access road is closed.
