Mamerto Caraang Pasion
Mamerto Caraang Pasion, 80, of Pahoa, he passed away on Thursday, Nov. 9, 2017 at Hilo Medical Center. He was born on July 4, 1937, in Darayday, Laoag, Ilocos Norte, Philippines; he was a retired heavy equipment operator for the former Puna Sugar Company and a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Pahoa, Hawaii.
Friends may call on Saturday, November 25, 2017 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Pahoa, Visitation from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m.; Celebration of Mass at 10 a.m. Casual attire; Burial at Pahoa Catholic Cemetery.
He is survived by wife, Rosita Pasion of Pahoa; sons, Dennis R. (Amberlee) Pasion and Glenn R. (Bernadette Jean) Pasion of Pahoa; daughters, Cherry R. Bernice Berdon
Bernice (Kauhi) Berdon 86, Bernice peacefully passed away at home on Oct. 29, 2017. She was born on April 6, 1931 in Waipio Valley. Bernice was a retired florist/farmer.
Celebration of life on Saturday, Nov. 25, 2017 at St. James Episcopal Church at 65-1237 Kawaihae Road Kamuela, HI, 96743. Family visitation at 7-8 a.m., public from 8-11 a.m. Services from 11 a.m. to noon. Burial at noon, followed by a gathering at the Berdon Residence.
Survived by son Alfred “Butch” Berdon Jr.; daughters Alfreida “Leo” Akau, Valerie Berdon, Charmaine “Mainey” Phillips, Corinne “Tootsie” (Matthew) Weller; brothers Wilfred (Connie) Duldulao, Clerman (Sandy) Duldulao; sisters Rebecca Tomas, Kathryn (Lawrence) Fujioka, Sally (Nelson) Kim, Charlotte Rodrigues, 16 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren; numerous nephews, nieces, and cousins.

Daniel Te’o-Nesheim
Daniel Olav Te’o-Nesheim 30, passed away on Oct. 29, 2017. Daniel was born June 12, 1987 in Pago Pago, American Samoa. He was dedicated to his family, as well as to the students, faculty, and families at Hawaii Preparatory Academy where he was the head football coach and dormitory parent.
Services were held at HPA upper Campus on Nov. 11, 2017. He was a beloved son, brother, uncle, grandson, nephew, cousin, mentor and friend. He was a humble, gentle, and loyal soul who loved, laughed, and lived every minute to its fullest.
Daniel is survived by mother Ailota Te’o; grandmother Luisa Te’o; sister Marie (Max III) Aiona; nephews David, Max IV, Lucca, niece Liliana; and numerous uncles, aunts, and cousins. He will be greatly missed, and his absence will be felt by all.

George Yamanaka
Mr. George Joji Yamanaka, age 76, of Hilo, Hawaii, died Oct. 30, 2017 at the Hilo Medical Center. He was born in Hilo, Hawaii on Feb. 9, 1941, and was retired from Royal State Financial Corporation as a senior systems analyst. Private services held.
He is survived by wife, Flora Yamanaka of Hilo; sons, Todd (Miyoko) Yamanaka of Honolulu and Tedd Yamanaka of Pearl City; sisters, Florence Shibata of Hilo and Frances Kanno of Hilo; five grandchildren; numerous nephews, nieces and cousins.

James “Jimmy” Jitsuo Kuwana, 79, of Hilo, died Oct. 23, 2017. Born in Hilo, he was a truck driver for James M. Kuwana, Inc.

He is survived by sons, Sheldon (Carolyn) Kuwana, Wayne (Cynthia Carvalho) Kuwana, Eric (Cindy) Kuwana; daughter, Sheila (Dean) Matsunami; sisters, Eleanor Odo, Lorraine (Roy) Nakamura; four grandsons; nieces and nephews.

Yoshie Oshiro
Yoshie “Carole” Oshiro, 86, of Hilo died Oct. 20, 2017, at the Hospice of Hilo Pohai Malama Facility. She was born in Hilo and was a homemaker and a member of the Honpa Hongwanji Hilo Betsuin and its Buddhist Women’s Association and Choir, Hui Okinawa, Big Island Karaoke Club, Kamana Karaoke Club and the Piihonua Community Association.
Private family services were held.
She is survived by her daughter, Debbie (Gordon) Gota of Hilo; son, Lloyd (Analyn) Oshiro of Paso Robles, Calif.; six grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.

Carole Osaki
Carole Fusako Osaki, 72, of Hilo, died Oct. 13, 2017, at the Hospice of Hilo Pohai Malama Facility. She was born in Hilo and was a retired medical technologist.

She is survived by her sisters, Sandra Osaki of Waipahu and Susan Donohue of California; several aunts, uncles and cousins.
