Trying to respect president
Like many people, I am having trouble respecting President Trump. I am grateful that so far he has not started a nuclear war, but otherwise I find nothing to respect. Sorry.
First, he attacked President Obama with the incredulous birther movement, also disrespecting Hawaii when we showed the proper birth certificate as well as newspaper notices of President Obama’s birth. Barack Obama is a brilliant and compassionate human being who rose to greatness without the proverbial silver spoon, while Donald Trump is so spoiled and so selfish that he is barely distinguishable from Kim Jong Un.
Second, our current president respects only ruthless dictators (like Putin and Duterte) and white supremacists (such as neo-Nazis and the KKK), while he disrespects all his competitors by constantly referring to them with cruel nicknames like “Little Marco” and “Lying Ted” and “Crooked Hillary.”
Third, he surrounds himself with people dedicated to destroying the environment, public education and the public trust.
But because he is our president, I am trying to respect him. Maybe the headline “Wish you weren’t here” was a little much, but the signs that proclaimed “Welcome to Kenya” were just perfect.

Thanks for respecting vets
I’d like to send a huge mahalo to Lex Brodie’s for their free veterans car wash, which they had this past Friday and Saturday.
This is the kind of aloha Kona has been known for over the years, and it’s gratifying to know that it’s still alive, however, unfortunately, dwindling.
As a Vietnam vet, my deepest love to all of my fellow brothers and sisters who unselfishly stood tall for this great, one nation under God.
I defy those overpaid NFL athletes who desecrate our God, our country, and our flag, and those of us who stood. When the greater majority of them haven’t done any more than to greedily want more!
I defy them to take off all of their protective gear, pick up a rifle, and join us on the real battlefield.
