HILO — The recently vacated Keaau Village Market will be replaced by a Longs Drugs location, building permits have revealed.
According to building permits filed Oct. 16, a new location in the drugstore franchise will replace the Keaau Village Market pending its demolition.
One of two building permits filed in relation to the property involves demolition work described as the “complete demolition of existing Keaau open-air farmers market with restrooms,” while the second permit describes construction of “Longs Drugs/CVS store #6870” on the same site.
The estimated cost of demolition is set at $20,627, while construction costs for the new business are estimated at more than $4 million.
When completed, the new store would be the third Longs Drugs location in the 20-mile stretch between Hilo and Pahoa.
