1) Unplug
Sometimes email feels like a full-time job alone! Be sure you take quick breaks to unplug, get away from all technology and focus on something else. Whether it’s cooking a meal, working in the yard or playing with your dog, just make time to do it daily. Research suggests that constant connectivity lowers productivity and reduces your ability to manage stress. In addition, too much screen time is bad for your eyes!
2) Go outside
The outdoors are natural mood boosters and help with productivity. When possible, be creative and schedule a walking meeting or meet somewhere that has outdoor space. Take a walk, challenge yourself to 10,000 steps a day or simply take a call outside. Fresh air is always a good idea!
3) 5-3-1
The Center for Healthy Minds advises us to remember the 5-3-1 rule. This daily practice includes a 5-minute meditation, writing down three good things that happened and completing one act of kindness. Don’t know how to meditate? There are several apps to guide you: Headspace, Calm and Yogaglo are all great for beginner meditation.
4) Declutter your workspace
As the declutter guru, Marie Kondo teaches, “Discard anything that doesn’t spark joy.” We’re not telling you that you need to revamp your whole house, but choose your workspace in your home and create a place that you will thrive, be motivated and feel inspiration. This starts with decluttering. You’ll feel bogged down if you choose to work in the middle of a mess!
5) Move!
Get up off that chair! Activity is extremely important to your well-being, mood and health — basically everything! Make sure you’re walking, stretching, running, gardening or doing something active for at least 30 minutes a day. Your body and mind will thank you!
