WAIMEA — Between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. Oct. 24, National Food Day will be the main attraction at KTA Super Store in Waimea.
Similar events will also be held in the store’s Puainako and Keauhou locations.
Tasty food samples, gardening demonstrations, nutritional information and free plant giveaways will be offered, while supplies last, at the free event.
Food Day was instituted nationally to inspire Americans to change their diets and push for improved food policies. Every Oct. 24, thousands of events around the country bring people together to enjoy food that is healthy, affordable and produced with care for the environment and the people who grow, harvest and serve it.
It’s also day a day that individuals can make diet changes and take action to solve food-related problems in local communities at the local, state and national level.
To help educate the public, booths will offer information about food safety, rat lungworm disease precautions and other health advice from the State Department of Health; SNAP sign up; Blue Zones Project tips and tastings; a healthy food drive with the Food Basket; and samples of chili pepper water by Native Fest. Other products and tastings will be provided by the store’s deli and seafood departments, with a tofu vegetable dish, Tamari poke, plus locally grown produce.
