Katherine Smith

Katherine “Nalani” G. Smith, 71, of Ocean View, died Aug. 2, 2017, at Kona Community Hospital. She was born in Hilo.

Visitation will be held from 8-10 a.m. Oct. 11 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Hilo; Memorial Mass will be at 10 a.m. and a scattering of ashes at noon Oct. 14 at Milolii.

She is survived by, sons, David (Raquel) Brown of Mountain View, Robert (Leilani) Brown of California and Jason Smith of Arizona; brother, James (Merle) Maiwela of Hawaiian Paradise Park; sister, Betty Ciotti of California; hanai sister, Raelyn (Roger) Schmidt of California; 15 grandchildren; one great-grandchild.

Allan Vallente

Allan Robert Vallente, 71, of Honokaa, and Kent, Wash., died Sept. 26, 2017, at Highline Memorial Hospital in Burien, Wash. Born Jan. 21, 1946, in Honokaa, he retired from the Hamakua Sugar Plantation and also worked at Mauna Kea Beach Hotel and was a member of the Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Honokaa.

Friends may call from 5-9 p.m. Oct. 12 at Dodo Mortuary Chapel for a 7 p.m. celebration of life. Friends may call again 8-10 a.m. Oct. 16 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Honokaa, for a 10 a.m. memorial Mass. Casual attire; flowers and lei are welcomed. An urn burial to follow at the Honokaa Catholic Cemetery.

He is survived by sons, Kevin Vallente of Oahu and Jeffery (Jeannie) Vallente of Washington; daughter, Judy (Eric) Reis of Washington; brother, Ralph Cordoban of Oahu; sister, Carmen (Harold) Alfiler of Honokaa; two grandchildren; numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
