Nearly a dozen veterans stationed at Camp Tarawa during WWII will return to the Big Island with their families for several events later this month.
Now in their 90s, they will visit Waimea Oct. 19 for a stop at the Camp Tarawa Memorial in front of Parker Ranch, followed by a slide show presentation at Parker School’s Theatre. It will include historic photographs and information about their training, their time on island and their ultimate mission. The presentation is open to the public. No RSVP is needed.
A luncheon at Kahilu Town Hall will follow. RSVP is requested by calling Kathy Painton at 880-9880 by Oct. 15.
