WAIKOLOA VILLAGE — Waikoloa Lions Club coordinated with Project Vision Hawaii this month to complete keiki vision testing for all students at Waikoloa Elementary School.
The new technology used was the EyeSpy 20/20 by Vision Quest, the world’s most advanced distant visual acuity testing system and the only automated, subjective distant stereo acuity assessment system. The Snellen system and the Plusoptix vision screener provided measurement values of refraction, pupil diameter and pupil distance, and symmetry of corneal reflexes.
Approximately 800 children were tested and 211 were referred to an optometrist. Lions Vision Foundation has applied for a grant to provide free optometrist services and free eye glasses to the school children.
Waikoloa Lions Club always accepts donations of used glasses. For information or donations, contact Waikoloa Lion Chris Morris at 339-7738 or cdmsr@pacbell.net.
