Roland Vieira, Sr.
Mr. Roland Myles Vieira, Sr., 80, of Kailua-Kona, died Aug. 9, 2017, in Vacaville, Calif. Born in Hilo on June 29, 1937, he was a retired high school teacher and coach. He was a former deputy sheriff and police officer in Los Altos, Calif. He was the commander of Chapter 279, Korean War Veterans, and a U.S. Army veteran.
A memorial service and inurnment will be held at noon Sept. 22 at the West Hawaii Veterans Cemetery. The family requests casual attire.
He is survived by his wife, Hildi Vieira of Kailua-Kona; son, Roland Vieira, Jr., of Seattle; daughter, Sherry Anne (Charles) Lee of Napa, Calif; sister, Edwina Yamura of Hawi; seven grandchildren.

Skip Dahlen
Skip P. Dahlen, 77, died July 14, 2017, in Kailua-Kona. He was born on Dec. 25, 1939, in Spokane, Wash. He was an entrepreneur and coffee farm owner who lived each day to the fullest.

He is survived by his wife, Adriana Dahlen; children Christopher and Paulina, Wally Dahlen of Hailey, Idaho, Kandice Backman of Spokane, Wash., Jeff Dahlen of Chicago, D’Arcy Brown of Fort Myers, Fla., Hans Dahlen of Eugene, Ore., and Dar Dahlen of Eugene, Ore.; sisters, Joan Harris and Bobbee Joy Rattray; 13 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.

Ivan Cook, Jr.
Ivan Milford Cook, Jr., 77, of Mountain View, died Sept. 2, 2017, at Hilo Medical Center. He was born on June 1, 1940, in Long Beach, Calif.. He was a retired manufacturing engineering manager for McDonnell Douglas Corporation/Boeing and a U.S. Navy Vietnam era veteran.

Clara Vivian Cruz, 78, of Paauilo, died Aug. 28, 2017, at home. She was born on April 1, 1939, in Paauilo. She was a retired cafeteria worker/custodian/substitute teacher for Paauilo Elementary and Intermediate School.

Jerry Nakashima
Jerry Toshio Nakashima, 93, of Hilo died Sept. 4, 2017, at the Hale Anuenue Restorative Care Center. Born in Hilo, he was a retired salesman for American Greeting Corporation, an advertising salesman for the Hawaii Tribune-Herald and a veteran of the U.S. Army during World War II.

He is survived by wife, Kumiko Nakashima of Hilo; son, Donn Nakashima of Honolulu; daughters, Geri Nakashima of Hilo, Marsha (Dr. Randall) Hirata of Hilo; two grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews.
