‘Communicating More Effectively in Challenging Situations’ workshop offered for caregivers

Elizabeth Kent will lead a workshop for caregivers of adults age 60 and older from 8:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Oct. 6 in Waimea at West Hawaii Mediation Center.

In this interactive workshop, participants will learn useful communication tools to share concerns, such as how to talk with siblings about mom’s health or finances, how to ask grandfather if it may be time for him to stop driving, knowing when to bring up uncomfortable topics and how to express thoughts and feelings. The four-part process includes how to be ready for a productive conversation, explore the other person’s readiness and willingness to listen, plan logistics and approach, and have a conversation using powerful and effective “I” statements.

Pre-registration is required. Contact Gina at 885-5525, extension 2 or gtumasone@whmediation.org.
