Neighbor Islands to help pay for the rail? Really?
I am sure that Oahu is very grateful that the state Legislature is willing to help bail them out, but I don’t think that the neighbor island folks should be held accountable. Let the City and County of Honolulu raise their excise tax to 5 percent or raise the TAT only on Oahu. Oh no? Is that because Oahu-elected officials would not get re-elected? Is this really about their jobs?
Sen. Ron Kouchi will have you believe that Oahu sends us money all the time for roads, etc. But that is the job of the state, to share with the entire state, not for us to pay for an Oahu county project like rail. So, don’t be picking on residents that never got any input or say in the matter way back when. And if you think this is only about hotels and tourists paying, think again.
Please, please contact all your legislators to discourage this outrage.

Who are you representing?
To Rep. Cindy Evans:
I would like you to know that I do NOT support taxpayers on the Big Island paying for the Honolulu rail. This money pit is not our problem. The voters in Honolulu made a choice last election. It’s their problem. Why is no audit being done? How can it cost over $350 million a mile? Our roads here suck and we are paying to fix Honolulu’s problem? Who are you representing? All the state legislators seem to do is figure out how to tax us into poverty. Stop already.
