Police ID victim in fatal Paauilo motorcycle crash

KAILUA-KONA — Authorities believe speed and alcohol were factors in a fatal motorcycle crash in Paauilo Sunday morning.

KAILUA-KONA — Authorities believe speed and alcohol were factors in a fatal motorcycle crash in Paauilo Sunday morning.

Emergency crews responded to the crash at about 2:47 a.m. Police determined the motorcyclist, identified as Glennon Pine, 43, of Paauilo, was driving a 1998 Yamaha motorcycle west on Hauola Road near Pohakea Road when he ran off the road, according to a press release from Hawaii Police Department.

Pine was taken to North Hawaii Community Hospital where he was later pronounced dead at 10:07 a.m.

Police believe speed and alcohol were factors in this crash. Pine was not wearing a helmet, the release states.

An autopsy has been ordered to determine the exact cause of death.

Police ask anyone who witnessed the crash to call Officer Erhard Autrata at 961-2339. Those who prefer to remain anonymous may call the island-wide Crime Stoppers at 961-8300 or the Hawii Police Department’s nonemergency line at 935-3311.

This is the 25th traffic fatality this year compared with 16 at this time last year.
