Praise to Ige
It certainly was a brilliant idea by Gov. David Ige to move the courthouse in Kealakekua to Kona! The residents of Kona will save gas and money by not having to travel to Kealakekua. Only a genius would have thought of proposing such a move. It is true that the current courthouse is dilapidated and was in need of an upgrade.
The only question I have is why is the courthouse being built next to K-Mart? If there are and there is jail cells in the courthouse is the public and tourist’s safety in jeopardy? Was there an EIS done for not only the wild Hawaiian goats but also the people? If any of the inmates escape could they possibly practice stealing, kidnapping etc. from K-Mart, Ross and Target? Won’t this courthouse also be obstructing the view of Mount Hualalai? Why wasn’t the courthouse placed near the police station or the civic center ? These questions should be addressed.
What Kona needs is a mall where the courthouse is being constructed! Let’s call it courthouse mall!
I know Ige meant well, but I don’t recall any vote, referendum or notice to the people of Kona in regards to the construction of this $90 million courthouse! Why is this monstrosity being shoved down the throats of the people of Kona?
Did the People approve the $90 million dollar price tag? It’s almost like the Superferry on land
