HILO — A public information meeting to initiate the North Kohala Agricultural Water Study is slated from 5:30-7:30 p.m. on Wednesday in Hawi.
Representatives from the DLNR Engineering Division and its consultants, Waimea Water Services LLC are conducting the study to identify the current and future demands, and explore options to evaluate existing and potential new water sources and transmission necessary to meet the agricultural needs of the region.
The meeting will be held at the Kohala Village Hub – Barn, 55-514 Hawi Road, in Hawi. The meeting is sponsored by DLNR and state Sen. Lorraine Inouye. Meeting facilitators are from One World One Water.

Beginner weaving class offered
Weave a lauhala bracelet at the last beginner weaving class of 2017, plus learn the history and many varied uses of the culturally significant hala tree, from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 18, at Christ Church Episcopal in Kealakekua.
Cost is $20. Bring a hand towel.

Hoop house building workshop Aug. 19
A free, hands-on hoop house building workshop will be held from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 19, at Maona Community Garden in Honaunau.
The workshop will cover the basics of building a versatile, low-cost hoop house. A hoop house is a series of large hoops or bows made of metal, plastic pipe or wood. They can be used for green houses, sheds, nurseries, animals and many more uses.
Registration is limited to 30 participants; each participant will receive a free lunch and smoothie ticket. Register via email to maona-communitygarden@gmail.com.
