Roy Volkoff Sr.

Roy William Volkoff Sr., 81 of Kailua-Kona, died July 18, 2017. Born April 22, 1936, in Los Angeles, he served in the U.S. Navy. He was owner of Kona Coast Cabinets, co-owner of Big Island Windows, and first coach for Kealakehe High School Bowling Team.

He is survived by wife, Donna; sons, Steven (Marie) Volkoff of Inglewood, Calif.; William (Rayanne) Volkoff of Keauhou, Roy (Sheri) Volkoff, Jr. of Kailua-Kona; daughter, Darlene (Dan) Bearth of Kailua-Kona; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Henry Mills

Henry J. Mills, 91, of Hilo, died Sunday, May 28, 2017, at Life Care Center of Hilo. Born March 30, 1926, in Maui, he was a retired hotel maintenance worker and a World War II veteran, having served in the Army.

Mr. Mills has no known living relatives. The attendance of fellow veterans and friends would be appreciated at his inurnment service scheduled for noon July 27 at Veterans Cemetery No. 2 in Hilo.

Jon Sakata

Jon Tatsumi Sakata, 62, of Holualoa, died June 25, 2017, at his residence. Born Sept. 15, 1954, in Kealakekua, he was a bartender for Sheraton Kona Resort and Spa at Keauhou Bay, a stuntman for SAG/AFTRA and a waterman.

A Celebration of life will be held 9 a.m. Aug. 6 at Makaeo Events Pavilion located at the old Kona Airport. Service begins at 10 a.m. with a luncheon to follow. Casual attire. No flowers. Condolences may be sent to the family at P.O. Box 97, Holualoa, Hawaii 96725. For information call 322-8050.

He is survived by wife, Lani Jo Sakata; sons, Kimo (Sky) Sakata, Keoki Sakata, Jonah (Stephaine) Sakata; daughter, Sanoe (Dustin Alcain) Sakata; mother, Lita Kuniyoshi all of Holualoa; stepsisters, Kandy Kuniyoshi, Holly Breckenridge both of California; seven grandchildren.

Samuel Hussey Jr.

The wrong age and birth date of Samuel Kuuipo Nohea Hussey Jr. was printed in an obituary Friday because of incorrect information provided by the mortuary.

Hussey Jr., 40, was born Dec. 27, 1976 in Wailuku, Maui.

Andy Lay

Andy Lay, 86, of Hilo died July 9, 2017. Born March 19, 1931, in Campbell County, Tenn., Andy served proudly in the United States Army as a combat engineer and was discharged honorably after 20 years of active federal service. He was a beloved husband and soldier.

Micah Hoku Carvalho

Micah Hoku Carvalho, 40, of Kapaau, died June 16, 2017. Born June 20, 1976, in Petaluma, Calif., he worked as a health policy advocate at the L.A. Gay and Lesbian Center as well as a policy and communications manager for the Asian Pacific Islanders for Human Rights in Los Angeles.

He is survived by parents, Joseph and Marcia Carvalho of Kapaau; brother Adrian (Kristen) Carvalho of Mill Valley, Calif.; one niece, one nephew, and numerous aunties, uncles and cousins.

Larry Inouye

Mr. Larry Takanori Inouye, 89, of Kamuela, died on June 30, 2017, at his residence. Born May 2, 1928 in Kamuela, he was a retired U.S. Army MSGT and served in the Korean conflict and Vietnam war. He was a retired maintenance engineer at Tripler Army Medical Center and worked in maintenance at the former Royal Waikoloan Hotel.

He is survived by his wife, Amy of Kamuela; son, Larry Inouye Jr., of Wahiawa, Oahu; daughters, Valerie (Roger Salazar) Inouye and Michele (Dennis) Tanaka, all of Kamuela; six grandchildren; 1 great-grandchild; numerous nieces and nephews.

Kiyomi Takeuchi

Kiyomi “Kay” Takeuchi, 90, of Hilo died July 4, 2017, at the Hospice of Hilo Pohai Malama Facility. Born in Mountain View, she was a retired flower packer and barber and a member of the Puna Hongwanji Mission.

Private services. Family requests no flowers and no koden (monetary gifts).

She is survived by daughter, Gail (Eli) Miura of Hilo; brother, Stanley (Beatrice) Yamasaki of Hilo; sisters, Patricia (Hitoshi) Aoyagi of Kailua, Oahu, Hanae (Tadao) Yamasaki of Hilo; sister-in-law; two grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
