Paul Strauss, a public health educator for the Hawaii State Department of Health (DOH), will discuss the current status of rat lungworm disease at 6:30 p.m. Monday at North Kohala Public Library.

Several cases of the disease confirmed on Maui and the Big Island have heightened awareness of the disease in recent months. DOH has developed a community presentation to give residents an understating of the disease and its scope on Hawaii Island. Preventing the spread of the disease requires safely controlling rat, snail and slug populations. The presentation will also discuss ways to reduce exposure to the disease when preparing fresh produce.
