Saving water not hard, fun even

Saving water not hard, fun even

North Kona has been asked to reduce water usage. These methods are used in Ocean View and other places with water catchment systems. Ways to decrease water usage:

1. Use paper plates and reuse dry paper plates

2. Take Navy showers. Get wet, turn water off. Rinse, then turn water off.

3. Use a cup of water to brush teeth. Do not let water run

4. Use bottled water for cooking and brushing teeth

5. Don’t flush after No. 1

This effort can be fun to see just how much water one can refrain from using. Fresh water is valuable. Hawaiian word for rich is water written twice — waiwai.

Group thanks for all the help

The Waimea Outdoor Circle (WOC) wholeheartedly thanks all the community members who came out in force this past Saturday to help clear the overgrown section of the Nature Park located behind Longs Drug Store, who kindly donated water and ear plugs for everyone.

Saturday’s volunteers included the young and the old, seasoned and new helpers and the task accomplished was remarkable. A special thank you to Community Police Officer May Lee, who spearheaded and organized this cleanup for the second time and brought volunteers with her to help. We are also overwhelmed with the generosity of Jon-Paul Mangarin, owner and operator of Rainy Day Landscaping, who donated his services and equipment all morning, chipping a massive pile of cleared tree limbs, brush and debris.

The WOC will continue to conduct ongoing workdays, with a goal of clearing the remaining area of the Nature Park behind the stream and making it safer for everyone.
