Scholarships offered for new natural science program at Palamanui
Hawaii Community College – Palamanui has announced that scholarships are available in the natural science associate degree program at the campus in Kona.
The Associate of Science in natural science is a being offered for the first time at the campus this fall.
Qualified students in the founding cohort of the program may be able to receive $3,000-per-year scholarships that can cover approximately 80 percent of the cost of tuition.
The program is designed for students who intend to enter a bachelor’s degree program in a science, technology, engineering or math field. Graduates can gain automatic acceptance at four-year University of Hawaii campuses.

Organizations merge to form Habitat for Humanity Hawaii Island
Habitat for Humanity West Hawaii and Hale Aloha O Hilo Habitat for Humanity have decided to join forces in the fight against poverty, forming Habitat for Humanity Hawaii Island.
The organization will be able to help more families across the island. Donations will help families islandwide and vonuteers may choose to help in Kona, Waimea, and Hilo. Businesses will have new sponsorship opportunities and be able to partner with the organization wherever their business is.
Community Restoration Partnership grants awarded
The Hawaii Community Foundation announced its 2017 recipients of the Community Restoration Partnership grants, totaling $400,000 to fund the protection and restoration of Hawaii’s coastal areas on seven of the Hawaiian islands.
The collaboration of foundations and private donors provide funds for on-the-ground lower watershed and coastal restoration projects that involve community stewardship activities.
On Hawaii Island, Hui Malama i ke Ala Ulili was given funds to support the Hoonohopapa community-based aina stewardship project, a research and training program to increase the capacity of Hui Malama i ke Ala Ulili as community stewards leading the restoration of the ahupuaa of Kaholalele.
Kona Historical Society online auction coming up
The Kona Historical Society Online Auction opens for bidding at 9 a.m. Sunday and ends at 7 p.m. July 23.
Gift certificates, art, activities and unique items are featured. It is the society’s biggest fundraiser of the year, which supports the H.N. Greenwell Store Museum and the Kona Coffee Living History Farm and provides public history programs.
