Natural hazard preparedness workshops offered in Waimea, North Kohala

UH Sea Grant with NOAA, County Civil Defense, DLNR and Red Cross will present free public classes from 10:30-noon at Kanu o ka Aina Learning Ohana, and 2-3:30 p.m. at St. Augustine’s Episcopal Church Hall in Kapaau on July 8, both sponsored by Senator Lorraine Inouye.

Sea Grant’s Dennis Hwang will explain how prepare for natural disasters with supplies, emergency plans, insurance and ways to retrofit older homes against hurricanes. Hurricane science and forecasting, evacuation planning, preparing homes and buildings, and emergency supplies guidance will also be provided, followed by a Q&A period.
