Blue Marlin World Cup
Teams from around the world will fish for eight hours in their respective time zones on Tuesday, July 4 for the Blue Marlin World Cup.
Entry fee for the event is $5,000, which covers the entire team. For those looking for a bigger challenge, there is an optional Big Blue Challenge available for $8,000.
Entry fees must be paid by 11 a.m. on July 2.
The Blue Marlin World Cup is also a qualifying event for the Offshore World Championships in Costa Rica.

LavaKids Liberty Fun Run
The LavaKids Liberty Fun Run will be held on Tuesday, July 4 right before the start of the Kailua-Kona Independence Day Parade on the parade route.
The one mile race will start at Big Island Honda and end in front of Huggo’s on the Rocks.
Admission for kids ages 5-16 is two cans of food to be donated to the Food Basket. R
registration is at 5 p.m. at the race start with the race taking place at 5:50 p.m.

Waiakea High parent and player football meeting
Waiakea will hold a mandatory football meeting for players and their parents who plan on participating in the 2017-‘18 school year. The meeting is set for July 6 and 5 p.m. in the school’s cafeteria.
FilAm Friendship Doubles Tennis Tournament
The 11th annual FilAm Friendship Doubles Tennis Tournament will take place July 15-16 at Holua.
The tournament will host the following formats: regular doubles teams (not team tennis), men’s, women’s, mixed, 6.0, 7.0, 7.5, 8.0, 8.5 and open.

Kona Country Club golf tournament
The Kona Country Club will host its annual golf tournament sponsored by the Kona Japanese Civic Association. The tournament is set for Sunday, July 16
The golf tournament helps finance two scholarships annually given to Konawaena High students as well as various cultural activities and events for the public.
There will be a 7 a.m. shotgun start and registration opens at 6:30 a.m. Entry fee is $100 per person with a $10 fee for mulligans (two max) and the Closest to the Pin challenge.

Huggo’s Wahine fishing tournament looking for anglers
The Huggo’s Wahine Tournament is fishing for anglers and teams for its 2017 tournament set for Saturday, July 29.
Highly competitive women fish for cash prizes awarded to the teams with the largest marlin/billfish weighing more than 300 pounds. Trophies will also be awarded for the largest tuna, ono, and mahi mahi catches.
The world’s largest ladies billfish tournament is limited to 75 lady angler teams, so women are encouraged to sign up early.
Every year, this fun tournament has a theme that sets the spirit of the weekend.
“Disney Characters” is this year’s theme and Huggo’s Wahine Tournament anglers have the opportunity of winning great prizes for the best-decorated boat and best-costumed team.
Fairytales, darling princesses, Neverland, mermaids and maybe even Captain Hook will be spotted as fun costumes make their appearance throughout the weekend fun.

Hawaii Cycling Club’s Sea-to-Stars race
Hawaii Cycling Club, along with Bike Works, is once again hosting the 48-mile, 9,800 foot elevation climb, Sea-to-Stars bicycle race on Aug. 5.
Cyclists may sign up at usacycling.com for the $70 early-bird price, discounted from the regular $95 fee, until May 31. Discounts are also available for HCC members,students, and the military. The field will be limited to 50 riders.
Registration will be done online only, and will end on Aug. 1. There will be no registration on the day of the race.
