Graduate students from Kona to study abroad
In July and August, graduate students from Miami University’s Project Dragonfly will travel to Africa, Asia, Australia and the Americas to engage in action projects on vital human and ecological issues.
Lindsay Price-Friend of Kailua-Kona will travel to Baja in July to study desert and marine landscapes through ecological and social field methods. Price-Friend is a new master’s student in the Global Field Program from Miami University’s Project Dragonfly. Price-Friend is an open water scuba instructor at Kona Diving Cc.. Katherine Carroll of Kailua-Kona will travel to Belize in July to study coral reefs, manatees, howler monkeys, jaguars and other wildlife while learning the methods communities are using to sustain them. Carroll is a new master’s student in the Global Field Program from Miami University’s Project Dragonfly. Carroll is a scuba instructor at Jack’s Diving Locker.

Coordinated Services of the Elderly issues Senior ID cards
The Coordinated Services of the Elderly Program of the Elderly Activities Division issues Senior ID cards for those age 60 or older Monday through Friday at the Aging and Disability Resource Center in Hilo.
Cards will be issued from 9-10 a.m. July 10 at Pahala Hawaii Housing Center, from 11 a.m. to noon July 10 at Naalehu Community Center and from 9-11 a.m. July 11 at L. Yoshimatsu Senior Center in Waimea. They will also be issued from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. July 11 at the Kailua-Kona Walmart, from 1-3 p.m. July 12 at Hale Hauoli Senior Center in Honokaa, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. July 18 at Yano Hall in Kealakekua, and from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. July 19 at the West Hawaii Civic Center, Building B.
