Shirley Fuke

Shirley Brenda Stevens Fuke, 69, of Hilo died May 25, 2017, at Hospice of Hilo’s Pohai Malama Facility. Born April 12, 1948, in Laupahoehoe, she was a retired eligibility worker for the State Department of Human Services Med-Quest Division in Hilo, a supervisor for the State Department of Agriculture and a telephone operator for the former GTE Hawaiian Tel. She was also a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Hilo and a treasurer for the Waiakea Homestead Community Association.

Visitation will be from 9-10:30 a.m. June 24 at Dodo Mortuary chapel, Hilo with a 10:30 a.m. celebration of her life . Urn burial to follow at 1 p.m. at Homelani Memorial Park, Lehua Section. Aloha or casual attire.

She is survived by husband, Gilbert Fuke of Hilo; sons, Ronnie Fuke of Tucson, Ariz., Steven Fuke, Aaron (Kellie Nagai) Fuke, all of Hilo; mother, Elsie Stevens of Waipunalei; brothers, Norman (Pinky) Stevens of Ookala and Billy Stevens of Waipunalei; sisters, Charlotte Branco of Papaikou and Carol (Richard) Niimi of Mountain View; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Fumikichi Matsuoka

Fumikichi “Kichi” Matsuoka, 93, of Kailua-Kona died June 2, 2017, at Kona Community Hospital. Born July 11, 1923, in Honalo, he was a retired maintenance worker for the former Kona Hilton Resort, a carpenter and an Army veteran of World War II.

Visitation is at 11 a.m. June 25 at Kona Hongwanji Mission. Service is at noon with a luncheon to follow. Family requests casual attire be worn and flowers omitted.

He is survived by wife, Rinko Matsuoka of Kailua-Kona; sons, Kenkichi (Loan) Matsuoka of Honolulu, Calvin (Sarah) Matsuoka of Kailua-Kona, Cedric (Rosie Kauhi) Matsuoka of Keei; daughter, Lisa (John) Edwards of Kailua-Kona; sister, Tsumako (Jimmy) Hatami of Hilo; brother, George (Shirley) Matsuoka of Captain Cook; 11 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews.

Ho’olokahi Aki

Ho’olokahi “Hapa” Kamaehu Aki, 23, of Keaau died June 4, 2017, at Hilo Medical Center. He was born April 7, 1994, in Lihue, Kauai.

A celebration of his life will be held at 9:30 a.m. June 25 at Hilo Bayfront at the Puna Canoe Club Halau. Contact Raene Aki at 990-0696 or Hoku Aki at 557-7737.

He is survived by mother, Raene Keliipuleole-Aki of Hawaii; father, Harmon Aki of Hawaii; brothers, Reef Keliipuleole, Rooke Keliipuleole, Houston Aki and Hokauanu Aki, all from Hawaii; sisters, Shantel Gasmen, Reesha Aki and Ranee Aki, all from Hawaii; grandparents, Haunani Palama and Bruce Gilpatrick of Hawaii; numerous, aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

John Speight Jr.

John William Speight Jr., 69, of Pahoa died May 31, 2017, at his residence. Born in New York, he was a former probation officer for the county of Los Angeles and a member of the Center for Spiritual Living.

A celebration of his life will take place at 11:30 a.m. June 25 at the Center of Spiritual Living in Keaau. Casual attire.

He is survived by brothers, Charlie Speight, Jim Speight; sister, Louise Whelan.
