Juanita Madera
Juanita Marie Madera, 78, of Pahoa died June 5, 2017, at her residence. Born in Oakland, Calif., she was a retired special education and bilingual teacher in California and a member of the Hilo Horseshoe Club.
A celebration gathering will take place from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. June 10 at the Ainaloa Subdivision Playground. Casual attire. Additional services will take place in California at a later date.
She is survived by husband, Enrique Madera of Pahoa; son, Ricardo (Renesse) Madera of Pahoa; brothers, Herminio Miranda Jr., Raoul (Joey) Miranda, Richard (Sandy) Miranda, Louie (Terri) Miranda, Reynaldo (Kathy) Miranda, all of California; sisters, Shirley Colon, Teresa Nunes, all of California; three grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews.

Crescentia Poligratis
Crescentia “Cris” Gomera Poligratis, 83, of Kawaihae and Hawi died May 21, 2017, at North Hawaii Community Hospital. Born Sept. 13, 1933, in Paauilo, she was a retired housekeeping manager for the Mauna Kea Beach Hotel and a housekeeper for Hapuna Beach Prince Hotel. She was also a member of the Ascension Mission Catholic Church, the Paauilo Santo Nino Club and the Kohala Visayan Club.
Visitation will be held from 6-9 p.m. June 11 at Dodo Mortuary chapel with a 7 p.m. wake service. Visitation will continue from 9-10 a.m. June 12 at the mortuary with a 10 a.m. funeral service. Burial will follow at Alae Cemetery, Section E. Casual attire.
She is survived by daughters, Anita (Chris) Godoy of Hawi and Kellie Ann (Myles) Hulama of Kawaihae; brothers, Lucino (Bella) Gomera of Paauilo, Domingo Gomera of Ookala, Daniel Gomera of Hilo and Gabriel (Verna) Gomera of Hilo; sisters, Judy (Joe) Costa of Honokaa, Oria (Roger) Michaelis of California and May (Gerald) Otomo of Hilo; two aunts; six grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
