KAILUA-KONA — A partially clothed and semi-decomposed body of a male was discovered Sunday floating in a pool at the bottom of a large waterfall in North Kohala, the Hawaii Fire Department reported Monday.
Kayakers found the body near coastline area, south of Honopue Valley, and notified HFD around 11 a.m.
An investigation is underway.
Sky diver injured
On Sunday, a skydiver was listed in critical condition following an accident in which the diver’s parachute apparently malfunctioned.
The 41-year-old male solo skydiver had injuries from a hard landing, a fire department release states.
Responders were called around 11 a.m. to a vacant lot mauka of Upolu airport in North Kohala, where they found the male lying on the ground attended by four to five bystanders. The victim had multiple serious injuries and was transported to North Hawaii Community Hospital in critical condition.
1 dead, 2 injured after accident
A person died following a one car accident Sunday night in Volcano, the Hawaii Fire Department reported.
The accident happened around 9 p.m. on Highway 11 at mile marker 33.
When emergency personnel responded, they found a white single cab Toyota pickup off the road laying on the driver side. One person was pinned under the mid-section of the vehicle without signs of life.
Another occupant was outside of the vehicle laying face down and not moving, complaining of pain to his legs. A third occupant self-extricated. No fire, or other vehicle was involved.
The cause of the accident is under investigation by national park rangers.
Police line down
The digital phone lines and network are not functioning at the Ka’u Police Station in Naalehu, police reported Monday.
